The United Kingdom (UK), comprising England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, was a member of the European Union until January 31, 2020. As of its departure, commonly referred to as Brexit, the UK ceased to be included in EU statistics tracking. Prior to leaving, the UK was one of the largest economies within the EU, with significant contributions to the EU's overall GDP. The country has a diverse economy dominated by services, particularly in finance, and a population of approximately 67 million.
